Innovators vs. Investigators: SIG Program Options Explained

Summer gifted program

SIG provides gifted and talented students ages 5-17 with summer enrichment through two programs: the Innovators Program and the Investigators Program.

Innovators Program: Summer Gifted Program for ages 9-17

The Innovators Program is a 3-week summer gifted program designed for gifted and talented students ages 9-17*. The SIG STEAM+ curriculum challenges students to discover creative solutions to real-world problems. The Innovators Program is designed to nurture the future leaders of the world.

Students attending the Innovators Program can choose to stay overnight in a dorm on campus for the duration of the program. Conversely, students may commute to the campus through a day program option.

*age requirements vary by campus

Innovators Program Options

  • Residential

Students may stay overnight on campus throughout the program. As a result, students gain independence and confidence while staying in safe and secure college dorms. Residential students are assigned to same grade, same gender groups and live in a supervised dormitory. A Residential Life Dean and Housemaster are also part of the residential supervision team.

Residential students enjoy evening and weekend activities. For example, residential students participate in movie nights, dances, talent shows, and local area explorations. SIG staff members supervise students during off-campus trips, as well as when they are on campus.

  • Day

Students may choose to live off-campus and commute to the program. This program runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays only. Students receive lunch in a college dining hall and take four courses per day. Additionally, students participate in a recreational hour in the afternoon. However, students choosing this program option do not participate in weekend or evening activities.

  • Day + Evenings and Saturdays

SIG offers students the option to live off-campus and still participate in evening activities and Saturday events. Lunch and dinner are provided daily in a college dining hall. Evening and Saturday activities include movie nights, talent shows, trivia challenges, and off-campus trips. Additionally, SIG staff members supervise students at all times.

*age requirements vary by campus

Investigators Options

  • Full Day

Students in the full day Investigators Program take four courses per day. The program also includes lunch and a recreational activity. Full Day programs run from 8:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during weekdays*.

  • Half Day

Students may choose to attend the Investigators Program for a half day instead. The A.M. Half Day option runs from 8:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The P.M. Half Day option hours are from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.* Half Day students take two courses per day and also receive lunch daily.

*hours may vary by campus

Extended Day Option

SIG also offers supervised play, social, rest, and study before and after the regular program hours. The extended day option is available to Full and Half Day Investigator students as follows:
• 7:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.
• 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily or 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Brenden would like to do one in June and then Berkeley again in July. Is there another that fits that schedule?

Hi Shannon! Thanks so much for your comment. If you would like to enroll Brenden in back-to-back SIG sessions, with the second being UC Berkeley Session II in July, you have two options for the first session:

1. UC Berkeley Session I (June 20 – July 10)
2. Emory University (June 21 – July 11) – Please note that UC Berkeley Session II begins July 12, 2020.

Don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions and we look forward to receiving Brenden’s application.

Best,
Cat, SIG Social Media Manager
