Located in the community of Hyde Park on Chicago’s South Side, just 15 minutes from the city center, the University of Chicago is uniquely positioned to contribute to, and draw from, the strength and diversity of this world-class metropolis.
The University was founded in 1890 by oil magnate John D. Rockefeller and the American Baptist Education Society. Original texts and small session discussions are a hallmark of a Chicago education, which continues to lead in the fields of law, economics, sciences, and many other disciplines. The University of Chicago’s firm belief in the value of open, rigorous, and intense inquiry makes it a perfect backdrop for a SIG program.
GENERAL
SIG at University of Chicago is a Residential Program. A Commuter Program and Extended Commuter Program are also available.

- The Mansueto library, which can hold the equivalent of 3.5 million volumes, looks like a giant glass egg, and uses robotics to retrieve items from subterranean stack and to personally delivers them to you.
